M&S ‘pushing’ padded bras on girls
♦ Marks and Spencer has been criticised for selling padded bras to girls as young as nine.
Laura Milatos, a mother, spotted the white cushioned garments in her local store in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, and shared a picture on social media.
She has called on the retailer to remove the star-patterned “Angel” bras from the children’s section of the store claiming it sends out the wrong message to young girls.
She said: “I don’t want to give my daughter the idea that bigger boobs are better. I want her to grow up knowing having a flatter chest is fine.
“I just find the generalised sexualisation of young children’s clothes – like crop tops, bodycon dresses – disturbing.”
M&S defended the lingerie, saying it was “extremely common” and selling them is “normal practice”.
A spokesman added: “There’s no fixed age when girls should start wearing a bra. Some Angel bras are lightly padded to provide modesty under clothing.”
