Vicar investigated over ‘illegal immigrant’ claim

A vicar who allegedly employed an illegal immigrant at his church is being investigated.

Rev Oliver Ross left his role at two London churches in June and was to be installed as the vicar of Malmesbury and Upper Avon on Thursday. But the service was cancelled after alleged “serious breaches of employment law”.

It is understood that a staff member does not have the right to be employed in the UK. The employment records of St Katherine Cree and St Olave are being investigated by the Church, which has informed the Home Office.
