DEIA, MAJORCA

-

The vibe: Where does the affluent spiritual party girl go now that Ibiza is overrun with oligarchs and grown-up ravers with their long-haired offspring?

The answer, as Kate Moss et crew have found, is Deia, a picturesque hotspot town in the hills of Majorca’s north-west coast. These are not the first creatives to find enlightenment here: Robert Graves pitched up in the Twenties (and never left, he’s buried in the churchyard).

Instagram types can post artfully bohemian reclining selfies while laying over the rocks. Everyone else might like to pop into La Residencia – the only place to stay if you’re still contemplating snapping up Michael Douglas’s old £35 million estate down the road in Valledemossa – for a stealth cocktail and spy on its 30 Joan Miro works.

Carry on: That blistering sun against the rocks means one thing: you’ll need a hat. Avoid getting yours squished on the plane by picking up a Yosuzi one at the Taylor Morris pop-up shop at the Jumeirah hotel in Port Soller (FYI, it also has very good sunglasses). A Cult Gaia bamboo creation would do very well here – see Net-a-porter, where they are currently slashed down to reasonably prices.

Beached: Think waft. An old floaty smock or kaftan you picked up “years” ago on the White Isle is perfect (for new versions, try starmela.co.uk). Trying is trying in this heat.

After dark: A little glitz is always helpful for looking like a hedonist, even if you only intend to share a paella. Simply add a gold sandal to your flowing cotton garb and brush some sand through your hair.

Don’t forget: Your sustainable credentials, Araks swimsuits are created from abandoned fishing nets and nylon waste salvaged from oceans and landfill. Also, they’re gorgeous and a very flattering cut.

Do pick up: Nip down to Port Soller for lunch (head to Kingfisher for excellent fresh-caught fare) and browse its very well-stocked boutiques for more wafty cotton and stylish crockery.
