Duchesses to watch Williams at Wimbledon
THE Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex will attend the Wimbledon ladies’ singles final together tomorrow.
The pair will watch Serena Williams, a friend of the Duchess of Sussex, from the Royal Box at Centre Court, Kensington Palace announced last night. It will be the first official royal engagement together for the two Duchesses without their husbands.
Williams attended Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry at Windsor Castle in May and has previously said she hoped the Duchess would come to see her play at Wimbledon.
Williams beat Julia Georges in straight sets to reach the final, where she will meet Angelique Kerber.
If the 36-year-old triumphs, she will be the first mother to win Wimbledon since Evonne Goolagong in 1980, and will do so just 10 months after giving birth to her daughter. The seven-times Wimbledon winner almost lost her life following complications after an emergency caesarean section.
