Change of shape

England left two players up front and did not react with a change of shape when Croatia began to dominate. It meant England were over-run in midfield and that was compounded by the fact that Henderson, as well as he did for over an hour, was not fully fit with his tight hamstring. At the same time both Alli and Lingard (below) had to work incredibly hard off the ball and covered more ground than any other England player (see below), with Croatia also having far more of the ball. Possibly Southgate should have gone man-to-man on Modric with Fabian Delph.
