Two jailed for cyber attack on lottery

-

♦ Two men have been jailed for their part in a mass cyber attack on the National Lottery’s website.

Thousands of hackers were involved in a security breach that put the logins and passwords of up to nine million lottery customers at risk and led to 254 accounts being closed, Birmingham Crown Court was told.

Daniel Thompson, 28, was jailed for eight months, for three cyber crime offences he had admitted, while Idris Akinwunmi, 21, was jailed for four months.

Camelot spent at least £200,000 investigating, and tightening up security in the aftermath of the cyber attack in November 2016.
