Not my president

-

SIR – President Donald Trump does not speak for the rational people of the United States; he spouts for himself and for his idiotic followers.

My sincere gratitude goes out to the thousands of you who protested Trump’s state visit to your nation. We wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments. He is a disgrace.

Elizabeth Osborne Solvang, California, United States

SIR – I am surprised that those who protested against Donald Trump’s visit do not realise that the only thing which would have upset the president would have been to ignore him.

This is a game well known to children who, for example, will delight in winding parents up at breakfast, leaving them upset for the rest of the morning. Meanwhile, the child has forgotten all about it within minutes – often contradicting their own argument at a later date. The only cure for this behaviour is not to respond.
