Conjugal initials

SIR – My widowed mother was proud to retain my late father’s initials (Letters, July 14). To her it was a sign that they had stayed true to each other and kept the vows made “either to other”, “before God and this congregation”. Sadly it sounds rather quaint now, doesn’t it? Jonathan Baldwin
