Unfamiliar feline Britain’s rarest (and untameable) cat

♦the Scottish wildcat is thought to be the inspiration for the Celtic mythological creature Cat Sith, which was said to steal the souls of the dead before they were buried.

♦the wildcat sub-species can interbreed with domestic cats, giving rise to a hybrid known as the Kellas cat.

♦ It is reputed to be untameable. It features on the crest of the Chattan clan, with the motto “Touch not the cat but [without] a glove”.
