Hong Kong party threatened with ban

Hong Kong authorities have told a political party that advocates independence for the Chinese territory that the group might be banned on national security grounds.

The territory’s security bureau sent a letter to Andy Chan, the leader of the Hong Kong National Party, saying it has three weeks to make a case for why it should not be banned. It cites a national security law that has not been invoked since the former colony returned to Chinese rule in 1997.
