Saver return for horse

-

SIR – How did Ross Poldark’s horse get home (Letters, July 18)? Simple – by rail.

In the original books Winston Graham has the Stockton & Darlington Railway opening at least 10 years before it actually did (probably the first and last time a northern rail service was early), so that Jeremy Poldark could see it and also be at La Haye Sainte on the field of Waterloo on June 15 1815.

If the author could do that, surely the BBC could redate the opening of the Great Western Railway to Truro by 60-odd years? Mike Ballinger
