Moonscapes

-

These six infrared images released this week, right, are the clearest view so far of Saturn’s icy moon Titan. Created using 13 years of images from Nasa’s Cassini spacecraft’s visual infrared mapping spectrometer, they show off some of the features normally obscured by heavy cloud cover. Observing the surface of Titan in the visible region of the spectrum, above, is difficult, because particles in the upper atmosphere bathe the surface in a glowing haze.
