The wet conditions slowed down the fairways considerably, with driving distances dropping dramatically for the second round.

The average distance driven at holes six and 10, two of the longest on the course, fell away as the ground softened in the rain and so brought balls to a stop more quickly.

Finau birdie haul Total for two rounds

Leading the way in the birdie stakes is big-hitting American Tony Finau (below), with a total of 11 over the first two days. He had a hairy moment yesterday on the 18th, finding the bunker of a different hole with his tee shot. US Open champion Brooks Koepka has had 10 birdies, four coming in yesterday’s 69. Mixed in with that basket have been five bogeys and two double bogeys, but it would be madness to rule him out heading into the weekend.
