Carnoustie ‘is golf ’

The staging of the Open Championship at Carnoustie has been called into question by the club captain, local shopkeepers and publicans in recent days. In its defence, Englishman (and club member) Matthew Southgate said: “You go all around the world and say the word ‘Carnoustie’, and everyone thinks of golf. This is the holy grail, as it were. I wouldn’t want to see it leave this golf course and leave this town.”
