James Foley

The journalist became the first American citizen known to have been murdered by Isil when a video was posted online appearing to show his beheading on August 19 2014. Mr Foley, who had reported in the Middle East for five years, had been kidnapped in November 2012. He read a statement as Mohammed Emwazi stood beside him with a knife. Mr Foley’s mother has opposed his killers facing the death penalty.
