Steven Sotloff

An Americanisraeli journalist, Mr Sotloff was abducted in Syria in 2013. He was named as the next hostage to be killed by Mohammed Emwazi in the Foley video. Mr Sotloff, 31, had told a journalist shortly before his abduction that he wanted to quit reporting after becoming demoralised by the dangers. A video posted in September 2014 showed Mr Sotloff delivering a statement before his beheading. Emwazi was seen by his side.
