Smart meter snooping

-

SIR – Smart meters are great for the giant German (and other) electricity conglomerates, rubbish for British householders. They are no more than entry-level snooping, and everyone has a right to refuse one in their home.

Smart meters, according to the latest figures (report, July 21), save no more than £11 a year per household. They are a confidence trick. Joseph G Dawson

SIR – Sam Meadows (Telegraph Money, July 14) reports on problems with new smart meters when changing supplier.

With my old meter, I checked my readings monthly and sent these online to my supplier. This was an excellent way of keeping me aware of my average consumption.

Since my smart meter was installed, I have no record of my monthly fuel consumption and am too busy to check it daily. It would appear that the suppliers are the real beneficiaries. Gordon Laidlaw
