Rotherham council to regain control of services
Rotherham council is set to run its own services again after being heavily criticised following the child sexual exploitation scandal.
The Government is set to end its intervention, saying the authority has “turned itself around”.
Commissioners were appointed to run the council three years ago in the wake of damning reports into the way more than 1,400 children were groomed, abused and trafficked in the town for more than a decade.
Yesterday, James Brokenshire, the Communities Secretary, said in a written statement that he is minded to return control of all services, including children’s social care.
