Smartphone censor

-

SIR – Recent letters (July 23) have discussed how computer algorithms censor “rude” words.

Last week my sister bought a new smartphone. She told me that lick never appeared in the predictive text choice of words. She could have lack, lock and luck, but lick was not allowed or stored, even after repeated use.

Weirdly, a word rhyming with luck was allowed. I have found that the same dottiness applies on my Kindle.
