Cool products top nation’s shopping list

Sales of fans and air purifiers are soaring as householders seek to keep their cool in the prolonged heatwave. John Lewis said sales of electrical cooling products were up 315 per cent compared with last week.

Sales of its lighter duvets had risen by 39 per cent on last year, while Halfords saw a surge in barbecue sales of 723 per cent on last week.

Superdrug said its mini fans had sold out and sun protection was “selling out across the country”.
