Bulgaria builds border fence to protect its pigs

-

Bulgaria is erecting a fence along its border with Romania to keep out wild boar that could carry African swine fever to pig farms and threaten the country’s pork industry.

While no case has yet been detected in Bulgaria, the spread of the fever in eastern Europe is causing concern.

The virus that causes the disease is harmless to humans and other animals, but for wild boar and farm pigs it is almost always fatal.
