Brexit à la May
SIR – Theresa May was in charge of an election that she declared she would not hold. We lost.
She is now taking charge of our Brexit talks. Are we to lose again? Alexander Hopkinson-woolley

SIR – Remainers may sleep sound in their beds now. Steve Siddall
Holt, Wiltshire
SIR – If Vince Cable is looking for a name for his new Brexit-blocking political party (report, July 24), may I suggest the Anti-democrats? Philip Roberts
Wrexham
SIR – David Conroy (Letters, July 23), who accuses Sir John Major of reigniting Project Fear, fails to take into account that the current chaos over Brexit meets the goals of both Vladimir Putin (weakening Nato) and Donald Trump (breaking up the EU).
No deal would also involve the loss of trade deals negotiated through the EU and would leave Britain more desperate for any deal with the US, regardless of the loss of environmental and worker protections.
Both Mr Trump and Mr Putin would be delighted with either a hard Brexit or Britain crashing out of the EU without agreement. It cannot be asserted that Leave voters wanted this, and it casts doubt on the patriotism of those undermining the possibility of a deal. Gill Westcott
