Zoo evacuated as crops burn on nearby farmland

A zoo was evacuated when a grass fire ripped through crops at a nearby farm. Flames and billowing smoke forced roads to close in Berwick, East Sussex, and some 1,500 visitors were led out of Drusillas Park, which is home to monkeys, llamas, red pandas and meerkats. Locals were told to stay indoors. A spokesman at the zoo said all its animals were “safe and well”.
