Puigdemont to continue activism from Belgium

Carles Puigdemont, Catalonia’s deposed president, said yesterday that he would head to Belgium to continue to press for his region’s independence after a Spanish judge dropped a European arrest warrant for him.

Mr Puigdemont was detained in Germany at the end of March, on Madrid’s request, but he now no longer runs the risk of extradition to Spain.

He fled his home country shortly after being sacked as Catalan president in October last year.
