BBC Proms 2018: Prom 16 – Hallé Under Mark Elder
RADIO 3, 7.30PM
Beauty and the natural world are themes of this evening’s Prom, with a particular focus on birds thanks to Stravinsky’s Song of the Nightingale and The Firebird Suite. The Hallé Orchestra are conducted by Mark Elder in a programme that also includes Wagner’s Tannhäuser overture and Debussy’s La Damoiselle élue. The bird themes are further brought out in the interval, with a discussion between Professor Tim Birkhead – who has studied seabirds for 45 years – and the author of H is For Hawk, Helen Macdonald.
