Mowgli in the nest

SIR – I was fascinated to read about the blue tit chicks “adopted” into a family of great tits (Nature Notes, July 26). Would the adopted blue tits consider themselves to be blue tits or great tits?

To my garden there is an occasional visit by a group of sparrows, with one blue tit among them. Perhaps that blue tit had been raised by sparrows and considers itself a sparrow, too. Andrew Roff
