Baristas’ coffee needn’t be so complicated

-

Mcdonald’s, purveyor of Happy Meals, hamburgers and fries, has announced that it is to trial baristas in some of its London stores. Flat whites and cappuccinos are the most popular items to buy in its restaurants, and the company is the second biggest seller of

coffee in the country.

As a caffeine addict, getting through around four cups a day, I obviously welcome the boom in baristas on the high street. I’m not too proud to walk under the Golden Arches and order a flat white – I will go anywhere for my fix. But why must it always take so long for baristas to make a cup of coffee?

It’s not a complicated

cocktail. I don’t care about the little pattern you make in the frothed milk – I’m only going to shove a lid on it and drink it.

In some cafés, it seems that you can be waiting almost as long as it takes to grow the actual bean.

If Mcdonald’s can do for coffee what it’s done for food and serve me a flat white in less than 30 seconds, then I’m all theirs.
