Rocket attacks as Mali voters go to the polls
Rockets were fired on the UN mission in north-east Mali yesterday, as people voted in a crucial presidential election beset by ethnic and jihadist violence.
Despite the deployment of 30,000 security personnel throughout the country and an RAF mission, several incidents were reported.
Elsewhere, unidentified gunmen burned polling stations and ballot boxes. Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, 73, the president, who is bidding for reelection, is one of 24 candidates.
