Archbishop resigns over child abuse cover-up
Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Philip Wilson, an Australian archbishop convicted of concealing abuse by a notorious paedophile priest in the Seventies, the Vatican said yesterday.
Wilson, 67, was this month sentenced to a year in detention after being found guilty of failing to report allegations against Jim Fletcher, a paedophile priest. He had long denied the charges and initially resisted calls to resign pending an appeal against his conviction.
