With all disrespect

SIR – Clare Turner (Letters, July 30) disapproves of the mockery of the Prime Minister’s cooking and attempts at being normal on BBC Radio 4’s Where’s the F in News?, describing it as “disgusting”.

She is wrong. Such mockery is not an “appalling” streak in the British character. From That Was the Week That Was to Spitting Image and Have I Got News For You, our sense of humour has long targeted politicians, right down to the most trivial aspects of their lives.

We should not expect television and radio panellists to have nothing but kind words for public figures. Alistair Knifton
