GERMAN ATTACKS ON THE RIVER OURCQ

ALLIES’ LINE HELD

-

The German resistance between Soissons and Rheims is growing more obstinate, and attacks on their part are becoming more frequent. So far, in spite of very heavy fighting, they have not gained any material advantage, and the Allies have maintained all their positions. The official communiqué issued yesterday afternoon by the French Staff was as follows: Paris, Wednesday Afternoon.

After a strong bombardment the Germans attacked our new positions east of Oulchy-le-chateau. We repulsed the enemy’s assault and maintained our lines intact. On the right bank of the Ourcq lively engagements took place north-east of Fere-en-tardenois. The village of Seringes passed from hand to hand, and was eventually carried by an American counter-attack. Numerous enemy raids near Mesnil-st.-georges, east of Montdidier, in the Bois le Pretre, on the right bank of the Meuse, and in the Vosges did not achieve any success. On our side we carried out a raid into the German lines northeast of Perthes-les-hurlus and brought back some prisoners. The night was calm on the remainder of the front. Last night’s French communiqué was as follows:

Paris, Wednesday Night.

On the whole of the battle front the day was marked by artillery actions between Montdidier and the Oise. An enemy raid to the north of Antheuil obtained no result.
