Classic car fanatic crushed to death on his own driveway

-

A CLASSIC car enthusiast was killed when his beloved Triumph Herald rolled over him as he worked on it, an inquest heard yesterday.

Adrian Stock, 75, was “tinkering” with the red vintage convertible when he became trapped underneath. Two axel stands near the car appeared to have left drag marks on the driveway.

The inquest heard the retired engineer would regularly tinker with the car at his home in Brecon, Powys.

In a statement, Mark Jones, a neighbour, said Mr Stock was speaking to him and “berating himself ” while he was trapped. “He said something like ‘I don’t know why I pushed it out. I usually drive it out,” he said.

Mr Stock was airlifted to hospital with a fractured hip and ribs but died 10 days later on April 4. The pensioner, who lived with his partner, Sharon Gunde, was known for his love of classic cars and fundraising in the community. He was president, treasurer, and trustee of his local rotary club.

Recording his verdict, Andrew Barkley, the coroner for Powys, said: “It’s more likely than not that his death was brought about by injuries he sustained as a result of the accident.”
