Autistic man waving toy gun shot dead by police

Swedish police are under investigation for shooting dead a 20-year-old autistic man who was holding a toy gun.

Eric Torell, who also had Down’s syndrome, was killed in Vasastan, Stockholm, at 4am on Thursday after he ran away from home with the toy.

The special prosecutor’s office confirmed that “more than one officer fired a service weapon”.

“We are completely destroyed... We are in a state of shock,” the victim’s mother Katarina Soderberg told Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet.
