Police and fire chiefs lose jobs after Greek wildfire
Greece ousted its police and fire chiefs yesterday after a public outcry over a devastating wildfire which killed at least 88 people on July 23.
The heads of both services were replaced with their deputies, a statement from the office of Alexis Tsipras, the prime minister, said. It made no mention of the blaze, which tore through Mati, east of Athens.
Nikos Toskas, the civil protection minister, also resigned on Friday amid strong criticism of the government’s handling of the wildfire.
