£60,000 payout for injuries in Parliament
MORE than £60,000 of taxpayers’ money has been spent on compensating staff and visitors injured in Parliament, including £18,190 paid out when a cleaner was hit on the head by a tile which fell from the ceiling. Claims paid out over the past three years include nearly £20,000 to a guest splashed with hot water by a House of Lords waiter, and more than £12,000 to a cleaner who fell on a slippery floor. One House of Commons employee received nearly £13,300 after falling off his motorcycle leaving the car park. In addition to the compensation claims, there have been hundreds of injuries and mishaps on the Parliamentary estate, a freedom of information request by Politicshome has shown. A spokesman said: “Payments for personal injury claims come out of the administration budgets of both Houses… overall the number of accidents reported are in line with comparable organisations.”
