Knives out on holiday

-

SIR – Almost every time my wife and I have taken our classic MG – which has a boot capable of stowing two very small holdalls – to France through Portsmouth, we have been directed through security for inspection.

Each time we are asked if we have any knives in the car; each time, I answer in the negative. Incidentally, the ferry has two restaurants and a café, where metal knives are freely available. Paul Rutherford
