Waiting to Exhale (1995)

 This landmark female-led drama, based on the blockbuster novel by Terry Mcmillan, stars Whitney Houston as a lonely, single woman eager to find love alongside her three best friends played by Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine and Lele Rochon. It was Forest Whitaker’s first venture as a director and featured an all-black cast. It was also the first movie role that Houston did which didn’t involve singing.
