Nord Stream 2 seeks to avoid Danish waters
The consortium behind the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has applied for an alternative route, to bypass Danish waters, after the Nordic state passed a law this year which would allow it to veto the pipeline going through its waters. Denmark has faced pressure to make a decision on the route from both Russia, which is keen to press ahead with the project, and the US, which opposes it. Sweden, Finland and Germany have issued route permits.
