Married vicar and his curate resign over affair

-

A vicar and his curate, who had an adulterous affair, have resigned from their posts after they were suspended from public ministry.

The Rev Rupert Kalus, of Lanchester and Burnhope Benefice, and the Rev Ali Miller were both married when they started the affair, which has now ended.

Following an investigation, the vicar and the curate were suspended from public ministry for 18 months and 12 months respectively.

A Diocese of Durham spokesman described the affair as “adulterous” and said the organisation was “deeply saddened” by events.
