Over-familiar problem

SIR – A youth in my local convenienc­e store insists upon referring to me as “mate” and “buddy”, even though we have not been formally introduced.

Should I admonish him for being over-familiar, or simply be grateful that he does not throw in “bro” and “feller” for good measure? What do others think? Ted Shorter
