Apprenticeships on the decline

The number of people starting apprenticeships in the academic year to the end of May fell 31pc to 315,900, according to the latest figures from the Department for Education, just over a year after the apprenticeship levy was introduced. It comes as criticism mounts from companies that the system is too rigid and complex.
