Lipstick envy

-

Red lips had an official moment a couple of seasons ago, but I note they’re staging a comeback. The long, hot, humid summer means a) we now have the complexions that work best with a hit of crimson; b) we’re not in the mood for focusing on winter fashion yet, but we don’t mind laying out for some beauty products; and c) we want something that’s going to lift us out of our (slightly tired) warm weather go-tos (stripy tops, floral dresses, battered feet) – but not too much.

If you’re in duty free soon (and even if you’re not), I recommend the following:

Chanel Rouge in Coco (right) or Arthur How can you go wrong with two reds named after one of the 20th century’s most stylish women and her beau? Simple. You can’t. Punchy, yet glides on like a lover on their best behaviour. (£31, chanel.com) Mac Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo If any hint of shine seems de trop when it comes to scarlet, here’s your answer. Proof that Mac has all the answers. (£17.50, maccosmetics.co.uk)

Organic Pharmacy Red

Slightly pink and lovely. Sadly duty free is not hot on organic. But they should be. (£19.96, theorganicpharmacy.com)
