9-1-1 (on Sky Witness) is about unfeasibly glamorous firefighters in LA. This docu-series serves as a counterpoint, depicting the reality here in Britain. Following the West Midlands Fire Service from the station house to call-out, the programme uses the firefighters’ bodycam footage to take us up close to dangerous fires and into pitch-black smoky buildings. In the opener, the team tackles a huge fire at a factory in Birmingham and we learn just how close they come to danger every single day.
