One victim of ‘senseless’ hammer attack worked in City

-

A VICTIM of the brutal double hammer attack in south London was a King’s College student who now works in the City, it has emerged.

Ania Gos and her 64-year-old mother were ambushed yards from Ms Gos’s front door in Adderley Gardens, Eltham, on Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses said a hammer-wielding assailant rushed at the pair and hit them until they were both motionless.

Mother and daughter continue to fight for their lives at King’s College Hospital in south-east London.

Joe Xuereb, a 27-year-old resident of the same street who is not believed to be known to Ms Gos, is being questioned by police over the apparently random attack.

Yesterday it was revealed that Ms Gos is a 30-year-old Polish national who works at S&P Global, a financial services firm in Canary Wharf. The company said in a statement that it had been left “extremely shocked” by the “senseless attack”.

Ms Gos also completed a one-year course in advanced English at King’s College, London, having earned a master’s in history at the University of Lodz, according to a Linkedin page. Her mother was visiting from Poland.

Bob Gover, 69, who lives in the flat below Ms Gos, told The Daily Telegraph that several other relatives including a sister and young nephew had also been staying with Ms Gos and her partner.

Her cheekbone was shattered and she underwent a six-hour operation, the retired television engineer said.

The “horrendous” attack was caught on Mr Gover’s home-security camera.

The suspect was thought to have mental health issues, according to Scotland Yard.
