Iran taunts US as it unveils new fighter jet

- By Samer al-atrush

IRAN yesterday unveiled a new fighter jet as President Hassan Rouhani ratcheted up tension with the US, suggesting his regime was now too powerful for the US to consider attacking it.

The country has expanded its military presence in the Middle East, sending troops to support President Bashar al-assad in Syria’s civil war. The Kowsar jet, claimed to be domestically built, was unveiled as Rouhani said Iran should be prepared to confront its enemies.

He said: “Why does the US not attack us? Because of our power, it knows the consequences.” Donald Trump, last month warned Iran on Twitter, and in capital letters, that Iran would “suffer consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered” if it threatened America.
