SIR – At least 15,000 mobile phones or Sim cards were confiscate­d in English and Welsh prisons last year, according to a BBC report, equivalent to one for every six inmates.

The phones are used by some prisoners to order drugs and coordinate criminal activity inside and outside jail.

I cannot understand why the phones are not simply blocked. Try using a mobile phone in some military establishm­ents. You can’t.
