BETHAN HOLT WANTS TO BE A LITTLE BIT COUNTRY (HERITAGE)

-

Erdem had me at Adele Astaire, his American showgirl muse who married the Duke of Devonshire’s son and became a doyenne of country house elegance. I appreciate the long perfected classics enough to know that this is a smart trend to buy into (when is heritage not a thing for winter?), but am also aware that Balenciaga, Gucci and Louis Vuitton all backed the look so it is definitely au courant.

Do note: You don’t want to look like you’re off to an Agatha Christie murder mystery party, so it’s best not to attempt head-to-toe – a checked blazer here or a tweed skirt there, but not all at the same time. Where I’m (really) shopping: The high street is doing this trend brilliantly; I can’t wait for the checked trouser suit coming to John Lewis in early September. The Outnet’s Iris and Ink has lovely cricket sweaters and houndstooth tailoring, which isn’t too literal.

A few of my favourite things: Once the cold hits, I’m going to try a blanket coat, which is very complementary to this trend – the ideal would be from Jessie Western in Portobello, which specialises in authentic Navajo ones. I’m also hankering after Beaufille’s faux-heirloom pearls.
