Let’s hope life is plain sailing in the future for Kay

-

The “Woman Overboard” story gets curiouser and curiouser. An unexpected mermaid, Kay Longstaff, supposedly fell from the Norwegian Star cruise ship around midnight on Saturday night and spent 10 hours in the water before she was rescued by the crew of a Croatian ship.

I thought Ms Longstaff looked a bit sheepish after her miracle escape and, apart from a sunburnt face, appeared to suffer very few ill effects.

Claims that the air stewardess had been drinking and arguing with her boyfriend in the hours leading up to her fall hint at a darker side to the tale. Still, I doff my waterlily swimming cap to Kay who says that singing and strength from doing yoga kept her going. I get exhausted treading water for quarter of an hour in the Med during the day. The terrors of a dark Adriatic are unimaginable. Let’s hope Kay retains her buoyancy after a safe return to dry land.
