Killer recaptured after 18 months on the run

A convicted murderer on the run from police for 18 months after escaping from a prison was tracked down and arrested on Tuesday.

Shaun Walmsley, 29, who was sentenced to life for a murder in June 2015, appeared at Liverpool magistrates’ court via video link yesterday after being arrested by armed officers in Leeds.

He had escaped after two armed men confronted prison guards outside Aintree University Hospital where the prisoner was taken from HMP Walton in Liverpool, in February 2017. He will appear in court again on Sept 19.
