MPS’ choice of leader
SIR – William Hague is wrong when he advocates (Comment, August 21) Conservative MPS retaining their right to select the two candidates that are placed on the ballot from which Conservative party members choose their next leader.
Many Conservative MPS have shown utter contempt over the last year for their membership and the electorate by failing to implement the will of the British public in the EU referendum. They therefore cannot be trusted to recommend candidates for party leader to the Conservative membership.

SIR – I finally paid my membership fee yesterday, after a lifelong commitment to the Conservative Party.
I’m now in a state of wait-and-see anxiety: will the next leadership election come before I’m allowed a say in three months’ time? Eleanor Patrick
